Who is the Business Development Guy?
When we hear about the Business Development position or the Business Strategist position, a lot of us feel that these would be guys who do not have a proper or significant role in the company. Since these terms are very general and have a scope which is very wide, most of us do not tend to understand how important this position is.
A Business Development person is a very crucial part of any business. He/she tends to be a ‘Jack of all Trades’ and has a wide variety of roles to fit into.
Driving Growth — Analysing historical growth of the company, identifying reasons for it and coming up with plans and hacks to drive future growth.
Sales & Marketing — Working closely with sales and marketing to implement the growth plans in the most efficient way.
Analysing Competition — Keeping an eye on competition and assessing the same to create a fast growing and sustainable position for your company.
Business Modeling — Assessing the current model and tweaking the model, if required, to keep the business relevant and lean.
Motivating & Instructing Employees — Ensuring high levels of employee motivation and a strong company culture.
Liaising between Product & Marketing Teams — To ensure that there is a good fit and understanding and that the company’s plans are well executed.
These are some of the roles I feel a Business Development person has to play and hence becomes instrumental in driving a company.
